Mateer

Ivan L. "Jr." Mateer, 63, of North Drive, Butler, died Friday at his home.

Born May 26, 1945, in Leechburg, he was the son of the late Ivan L. Mateer Sr. and the late Mae Himes Mateer.

Mr. Mateer was in charge of security at Sonneborn. He had previously worked as a security guard at Butler Memorial Hospital. He also had worked at Sportsman's Supply in Summit Township. He had been a police officer in Apollo.

Mr. Mateer was a Catholic. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting and sports.

He is survived by his wife, M.Hester Mateer, whom he married on July 26, 2005; a son Matthew S. Mateer of Butler; a daughter, Danielle Barnard of Plain Grove; nine grandchildren; a brother, Daniel L. Mateer of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Jeanne Crotallo of Leechburg; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Dovie Schumaker.
