Simandl

William O. Simandl, 86, of Valencia, Middlesex Township, passed away on Thursday under the care of Valencia Woods Nursing Home.

Born on Oct. 13, 1925, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William and Lena (Erk) Simandl.

For 63 years he was the beloved husband of Anne M. (Worst) Simandl, who he married on Nov. 27, 1948. He was the loving father of Carol Simandl of Valencia, Nancy (Gregory) Cuckler of Gibsonia and the late William A. Simandl; brother of the late Ruth Erb; proud grandfather of Jason (Dana) Cuckler of Evans City, Craig (Margie) Cuckler of McDonald and Kimberly (Ryan) Dunbar of Bradford Woods. He also is survived by two dear great-grandchildren, Aiden Cuckler of McDonald and Amelia Dunbar of Bradford Woods.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Bill worked many years for the Pittsburgh Automotive Spring, Co. on the North Side and for over 20 years as a machine operator for the Pepsi Corp.

A devoted member of the Holy Sepulcher Church, he was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10175 and was active with the Smiling Seniors for over 30 years. Bill also was a member of the American Legion Post 548. He was an active bowler, fisherman and card player, and he enjoyed his dogs at home. Most of all he loved spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, and he will be dearly missed.

Simandl, who passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church with Fr. John B. Gizler III, celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church, 1304 E.
