Police suspect drug overdose
A woman faces drug-related and other charges after she was found unconscious last week at a Butler office.
Butler police were called about 10 a.m. Wednesday to the Mental Health Association of Butler County on Elm Street to investigate a possible drug overdose.
Police said they went to the office and found Tammy Lynn Dawson, 109 Hansen Ave., Apt. 4, passed out.
Butler Ambulance Service paramedics were able to resuscitate Dawson, who apparently became unresponsive after ingesting a combination of methadone and Xanex, a narcotic-based prescription drug, police said.
The woman, however, refused to be taken to Butler Memorial Hospital after she was revived.
Police searched Dawson and found two bottles of prescription medication.
"A large number of the prescribed tablets were missing," a police report said. "A written noted found with the (medication) indicated that Dawson was distributing the substance to others."
Officers, meanwhile, spoke with witnesses who reported that Dawson, prior to passing out, had driven to the office and "had difficulty operating" her car, according to the police report.
District Justice Peter Shaffer on Friday arraigned Dawson on charges of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, driving under the influence and public drunkenness.
The defendant, who is free on recognizance bond, was admitted May 10 to the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition program and given a year's probation stemming from previous drug-related charges.
