Margaret R. Bricker

Margaret Bricker

Margaret R. Bricker, 107, of Winfield Township went to be with the Lord at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday while in the company of family members at Fair Winds Manor.

Margaret was born in South Buffalo Township on Sept. 25, 1905. She was the daughter of the late Ella R. (Sloan) and William B. Hughes.

She was the widow of Gayle A. Bricker Sr., who passed in 1967.

Margaret was a wonderful homemaker for her family. She had attended the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church Quilters. She was also a member of Blue Star Mothers of America and the Senior Citizens Group of Saxonburg.

She is survived by her son, Gayle A. Bricker Jr., of Winfield Township. She will be sadly missed by all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Cecil H. and Donald E. Bricker; daughter, Dorothy L. Bricker Campbell; two daughters-in-law, Betty (Durst) Bricker and Joan A. (Stumme) Bricker; and her two brothers, John and Robert Hughes.

Margaret and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the United States, including trips to Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon and the Pacific Ocean, to name a few, towing a small trailer behind their car. In the early 1950s, they even took a sightseeing tour to Cuba.

When they were not traveling, Margaret took care of the family farm, tending to the animals, gardening and canning the harvest. Margaret enjoyed making quilts and handmade hundreds for family and friends, as well as countless crocheted afghans and other items. She lived in her home until she was 104 years old, only to go to a personal care facility where reading her Bible and other books was an enjoyable pastime along with visiting with family and friends. While at Fair Winds Manor, where she was known to all as Grandma, she liked playing Bingo, visiting with Chaplain Nathan and watching the birds from the comfort of her chair.
