Garbage truck removed from Armco Credit Union

Tow trucks extract the garbage truck that crashed into Butler branch of the Armco Credit Union on Hollywood Drive on Friday, Jan. 10. Morgan Phillips/Butler Eagle

Towing company employees dislodged the Waste Management garbage truck from the Butler branch of Armco Credit Union on Friday, Jan. 10, afternoon.

The truck crashed into the building at 101 Hollywood Drive on Tuesday morning after the vehicle slid down a nearby hillside. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, police said.

Police have not released the cause of the accident as of press time.

The removal process began around 1 p.m. after three vehicles operated by McGann & Chester arrived.

The process was slow, requiring the truck to be inched out. It was fully removed from the building shortly after 3 p.m.

Massaro Restoration Services sprung into action after the truck was removed, immediately beginning to clear rubble. Employees also began to cover the hole with wood.

Tow truck employees used their vehicles to then rotate the garbage truck to align it with the tow truck.

One issue complicating the removal was the garbage truck’s lowered fork which kept the crew from correctly attaching a towing cable. The crew had to detach the trash bin and push the fork up.

The bumper and passenger side door also were hanging off the garbage truck requiring crews to secure or detach them in order to safely transport the vehicle.

The frigid weather also played a part slowing the process as crew members needed to seek shelter in their vehicles to warm up.

Video of the crews can be viewed on the Butler Eagle’s Facebook page.
