Butler County's great daily newspaper

Cranberry Twp. sets a good example

I was surprised to read the recent letter to the editor regarding the Center Township supervisors approving a pay raise under the provisions of House Bill 2288. However, I was even more shocked to learn that five supervisors are receiving health benefits at an annual cost of $154,000 to their residents.

This prompted me to reach out to our own township to inquire about how much our five Cranberry Township supervisors spend on health benefits. I was pleased to learn that the answer is $0. In fact, Cranberry’s supervisors voted to eliminate their health benefits years ago.

Additionally, how did our supervisors respond to House Bill 2288? They voted not to accept the pay raise. Among all the townships in Butler County, one might assume that Cranberry, being the largest, could most easily afford such benefits. But perhaps it’s precisely this fiscal responsibility that has helped Cranberry become one of the most successful communities, not only in Butler County but across Western Pennsylvania.

Our success did not happen by chance. It’s the result of a clear vision, thoughtful planning and effective leadership. When elected officials consistently prioritize the interests of their residents and community over personal gain, the results speak for themselves.

Thank you, Cranberry Township supervisors, for setting a strong example of good governance and for your continued dedication to our community.

Donna Smith, Cranberry Township
