Helen Comperatore going to Trump’s inauguration
Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, said she will attend the inauguration for President-elect Donald Trump on Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C.
Corey Comperatore died almost six months ago, on July 13, when he was shot while shielding his family at a rally for Trump at the Butler Farm Show grounds. Trump was hit in the ear by a bullet and two residents of Allegheny County were also injured that day.
Helen Comperatore said she and some family members will attend the inauguration; after she had previously spoken to Trump following the death of her husband.
“We are going to the inauguration and will be looking forward to spending time with the president,” Comperatore said. “There will also be a tribute to Corey there at the parade and on the lawn at the mall.”
Comperatore also thanked the community for rallying around her and her family this holiday season.
“There were moments of love and compassion from the community that made us smile, and we were so grateful for,” she said.
While the two victims of the gunfire, Jim Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, and David Dutch, 57, of Plum, sent notice to Butler County, Butler Township and other counties and municipalities that they plan to sue over the events of July 13, Helen Comperatore said she has no such plans.
She said the local law enforcement and emergency responders present at the rally performed well, reserving her criticism from the day for the U.S. Secret Service.
“I praise Butler County for doing their actions during and after,” Comperatore said. “We are actually celebrating Butler County and their emergency responders at the inauguration parade.”
