High school roundup: Emily Matz leads Moniteau girls basketball to win over Union/A-C Valley

Emily Matz scored 12 points, 10 of the coming in the fourth quarter, as Moniteau girls basketball stormed back to beat Union/A-C Valley 46-30 Friday night at Union High School.

Matz finished with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds. Alyssa Thompson scored 11 points and had four rebounds and six steals; Sophia Fleeger scored nine and Charlotte Thompson eight as the team dropped 31 points in the second half.

Maddy Dehart had a big double-double with 12 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks for the Falcon Knights, who were held to eight points in the second half. Kya Wetzel had 12 points, eight boards and four steals.

Karns City 62, Clarion Area 43 — Hanna Dailey scored a game-high 15 points, going 6 for 6 from the foul line in the Gremlins’ road win.

Savanna Prescott scored 13 points and Naomi Venesky added 10.

Freeport 60, Derry 33 — Maggie Conger scored 12 points, 10 of them in the first half, as the Yellowjackets rolled to a home win.

Nia Disanti chipped in 11 points, and Sophia Glass added eight.

Boys basketball

Four players scored in double-figures while the defense was dominant in Knoch’s 69-22 victory at Valley on Friday night.

Derek Lang scored 13 points, Jackson Bauman 12, Brody Bauman 11 and Teegan Finucan 10. The Knights (11-4, 6-1 section) flew out to a 33-7 lead after one quarter.

Slippery Rock 63, Mercer 34 — Josh Book scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win.

Mars 74, Blackhawk 51 — Austen Wroblewski led a big offensive night for the Planets with 27 points on six 3-pointers. Will Wilson dropped 19 points and Austin Campbell 12.
