FOXBURG — Kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District is scheduled for April 19 and 20.
To enter kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old before Aug. 27 and have appropriate immunizations.

Students selected for international fairPITTSBURGH — Three Butler County students are among seven selected to represent the region at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair from May 13 to 18 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.They are:• Andrew Lingenfelter, Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, Harmony, for “Designing a Low-Cost Versatile Military Robot”• Alicia Grabiec, Freeport High School, for “Does the over-expression of miRNA in the fibroblasts cell line modify their fibrotic properties?”• Elizabeth Posney, Freeport High School, for “Turnout Effect on Knee Ligament Tension.”The students competed with more than 1,100 others in the 73rd annual Carnegie Science Center’s Regional Science & Engineering Fair to win the honor.Winners were announced at a ceremony March 31 at Heinz Field.Regional awards totaled $1 million in cash and scholarships.The international competition will bring together about 1,600 students from 65 nations and territories to compete for scholarships, grants, internships, scientific field trips and a trip to the Nobel Prize ceremonies in Stockholm, Sweden.
Marburger named treasury professionalButler County Treasurer Diane Marburger recently was designated a Certified Treasury Professional by the Association for Financial Professionals.In addition to meeting certification requirements, Marburger completed a minimum of 36 hours of continuing professional education in treasury, cash management and accounting every three years.Donna Schmitt, who is treasurer of Somerset County and secretary of the County Treasurers’ Association of Pennsylvania, said Marburger is one of the few, if not the only, county treasurers in the state to receive the CTP.The AFP, which is based in Bethesda, Md., serves more than 16,000 members in the treasury and financial management professions.Marburger, who is president of the County Treasurers’ Association of Pennsylvania, is coordinating a small games of chance seminar for association members today at State College.
