INDEPENDENCE DAY ACTIVITIES
This is the list of Independence Day celebrations in the region:
Since July 4 falls this year on a Sunday, the borough's annual celebration will differ slightly than in the past, said Mary Kay Mattocks, one of the event organizers.The Grove City Ministerial Association will offer a vesper service, and the traditional Paddle, Pedal and Hoof relay event will not be scheduled, since organizers thought the relay might conflict with church activities.The festivities will begin at 7 p.m., when residents will gather with lawn chairs and blankets on the lower campus of Grove City College. Caribbean Music Connection, a steel drum band from Greenville, will play music and patriotic songs.Two thousand American flags donated by the American Legion John R. Huff Post 220 will be given to those at the program.The vesper service will be at 8 p.m., with several pastors participating. A brass ensemble and a high school a cappella group will participate.Zambelli Internationale fireworks will end the evening at 10 p.m. with a display set off from the Grove City Softball Field on Pine Street.There is no admission for the event, which is sponsored by theborough and Pine and Springfield townships.
The borough's Community Day celebration will be July 3 in Community Park.The event will begin at 10 a.m. and end with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. During the day, events will include bingo, crafts, a flea market, dunking booth, food, children's games, rides, a wildlife exhibit and a 50/50 raffle.Scheduled events include:10 a.m. - Volleyball tournament2 p.m. - Firefighters' water battle3 p.m. - Harrisville Community Band4 to 6 p.m. - John Hanna Grand Ole Opry6 to 7 p.m. - 13 Eyes band7 to 8 p.m. - Dan Schall gospel concert8 to 10 p.m. - Disc jockey Suesser10 p.m. - FireworksEvent coordinators are asking residents for a $2 donation to help pay for the fireworks.For information on the celebration, call Brenda Bole at 724-735-2304 or 724-967-4440.
The borough will celebrate Independence Day on July 4 with events in and around town.The festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a doubleheader Eagle County League baseball game at Chester Marburger Field. The Mars swimming pool will host an open swim throughout the day.An all-day community picnic will take place at the park at Pittsburgh Street and Grand Avenue, with the borough hosting food and sponsoring youth games. Music will be provided by Greg Krupa and The Boogie Monsters.Lineup for the parade begins at 5 p.m. on Beaver Street and Chester Marburger Field. Leading the parade will be the children's bicycle parade. The parade steps off at 6 p.m.A fireworks display, funded by Mars and Adams Township, will be at 10 p.m. The James Austin Manufacturing Co. is sponsoring the Fourth of July celebrations in the borough.
The borough will host its Independence Day celebration on July 5, beginning with a parade at 11 a.m.It will begin at the corner of Grandview Avenue and High Street, go along Main Street to Beaver Street, ending at the Zelienople Community Park.This year's grand marshal will be Lou Sapienza Sr., who was recently honored with the Zelienople Rotary Man of the Year award.Events in the park will run between noon and 6 p.m. Boy Scouts will have ski, sack and three-legged races and the Girl Scouts will do face painting.There will be a dunk tank with high-profile community targets sitting on the drop seat.The Resurrection Marching Band will play at 1 p.m. and music will continue throughout the afternoon with the Rosedale All-Stars, Watergate, Jon Fisher and Zipperstitch. Karaoke also will be available.Residents can bring lawn chairs and participate in a giant game of musical chairs.Churches in Zelienople and Harmony boroughs and Lancaster and Jackson townships will participate in the Big Pie in the Sky bake sale. Church members will donate homemade pies for sale.The bake sale benefits Community Park.Swim races are planned at the pool during the day.A fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m. in Community Park.
