High school roundup: Butler indoor track and field wins three relays at Youngstown State meet

Butler’s 4x400 girls relay team, 4x400 boys relay team and 4x200 boys relay team all won Saturday at the Youngstown State Invitational.

The girls quartet of Adraya Baxter, Lyla Bowden, Madi McGarrah and Jocie Slesinski ran 4:11.81, which is the seventh fastest 4x4 in program history.

Slesinski also finished second in the high jump (5 feet), was on the second-place 4x200 relay that ran 1:51.92 and finished fourth in the 400-meter in 26.54, the program’s fourth-fastest time.

McGarrah finished third in the 800 in 2:25.86.

The boys 4x200 ran 1:31.85, seventh-fastest in school history, with Logan Ekas, Chris Rubcic, Aaron Stebick and Kevin Shriver on the team. Shriver, Stebick, Zach SLear and Logan Rogers ran a 3:34.90 on the 4x4.

Rubcic also finished second in the 200 in 23.07.

Other girls top-eight finishers were: Gracyn Vardy, fifth in high jump; Audrey Sansom, sixth in triple jump; Aubrey Rock, sixth in long jump; and Baxter, seventh in the 60 hurdles.

The remaining boys top-eight finishers were: Shriver, fourth in 200; Slear, fourth in 1600; Jason Wick, fifth in pole vault; Max Walker, fifth in high jump; Ellis Campbell, sixth in triple jump; and Brady Dumbaugh, sixth in high jump.

Slippery Rock was also at the meet, Madison Gearhart setting the girls 200 indoor record with 28.05 and Dustin Joyce finishing second in the boys long jump with a 21-6.

Girls basketball

Conneaut Area 69, Slippery Rock 50 — CJ Sabo had 19 point for the Rockets in a road loss.

Brockway 51, Union/A-C Valley 32 — Maddy and Kya Wetzel each had 13 points. Wetzel grabbed 12 rebounds and Dehart eight.

Boys basketball

Montour 81, Mars 64 — Will Wilson put up 18 points and Austen Wroblewski another 17, but the Planets were out-classed in section play.

Moniteau 57, Coudersport 54 — Braden Beachem scored 13 points and Connor Ealy had 12 in the Warriors’ win Saturday.

Boys wrestling

Mars ventured to Howard, Ohio, for an individual pool-style tournament Saturday. Wyatt Foster (second place), Owen Layhew (third), and Derrick Glover and Jarrett Crowe (fourth) all placed in the top four in their weight classes.
