Armco Credit Union’s Butler branch is set to reopen Tuesday, Jan. 21 following a crash earlier this month when a garbage truck barreled into the business.

After repairs and safety inspections, the branch has been deemed safe and credit union is ready to reopen its Hollywood Drive headquarters beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

“We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from the community during this challenging time,” said CEO Randy Cypher. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff and contractors, we are excited to welcome members back to the Butler branch.”

All bank services and functions will be available for customers, including drive‐through lanes, ATMs as well as the branch’s main office, according to commercial loan manager Mark Buchek.

While the building is structurally sound, there are still some repairs that will need to be done in the coming days to fully repair that side of the building.

“That section of wall will still be blocked off,” commercial loan manager Mark Buchek said. “People will notice a difference in the lobby when they come in, as there are still things that need fixed up.”

The crash happened the morning of Jan. 8 when the garbage truck slid down a hillside near the credit union before crashing head-on into the business.

The only person injured from the crash was the driver of the garbage truck, who suffered minor injuries and was to be taken to a hospital, Butler city police said.

“If it occurred during business hours, we would be looking at a different situation right now,” Michele Jurysta, marketing manager with the credit union said. “I am so thankful the driver is OK.”

Towing company employees dislodged the Waste Management garbage truck from the Butler branch on Friday, Jan. 10.
