1 person airlifted to hospital after car-collides with house in Saxonburg on Saturday night
One person was airlifted to a local hospital after a car collided with a house on Pittsburgh Street in Saxonburg on Saturday night, Jan. 18.
The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m., when the vehicle — a silver-colored SUV — crashed into a home on Pittsburgh Street. The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene.
The house also serves as the home of Vettori’s, which sells lawn mowers and other farming equipment. The business portion of the building was not damaged by the vehicle and reopened. According to owner Dave Vettori, no one inside the house was injured.
“My only trouble is dealing with the insurance companies,” Vettori said.
Mark Burd, president of the Saxonburg fire company, confirmed that the driver was taken by STAT MedEvac to a nearby hospital. He stated he could not add any more information because other first responders who were closer to the scene were currently in Washington D.C. taking part in a parade for the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
According to Saxonburg Police Chief Joe Beachem, the driver was female. He added that the accident is still under investigation and that he would know more by next week.
While no one in the house was injured, Vettori says that her mother, who is in her 80s and lives alone in the house, was “shook up,” and that the house sustained some structural damage.
“Nothing major externally, but it moved the whole house about 3 inches off the foundation,” Vettori said. “I’ve had firemen check it out, I’ve had another homebuilder check it out for peace of mind. They said structurally it’s OK. It’s just going to need a lot of rehabilitation work.”
