Symphony orchestra presents ‘Shostakovich Five!’

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra opens its new year Feb. 8 with “Shostakovich Five!,” featuring Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 5” in D Minor, and Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto” in D Major.

The concert begins

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Butler’s Intermediate High School Auditorium. Austin Chanu returns as guest conductor for the show, along with the Philadelphia Orchestra’s concertmaster, David Kim.

Chanu and Kim have worked together over the last several years in Philadelphia and are now bringing their talents to the Butler stage. Kim is a well-known violinist and educator and has served as concertmaster since 1999. He will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto.”

Chanu is one of three finalists for music director of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra. Chanu has planned a preconcert presentation at 7 p.m. for symphony patrons who arrive early. Reserved seat tickets are available presale at $30 for adults, $10 for children and students by visiting the Symphony’s website, Butlersymphony.org.

Following presale, available tickets are sold at the door the night of the concert at $35 for adults and $12 for children and students.
