Barbara Ellen Lucas
Barbara Ellen Lucas, 87, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday morning at St. John's Specialty Care in Mars.
Born on Aug. 17, 1926, in Belltown, Somerset County, she was a daughter of the late George Lucas and Barbara (Churner) Lucas.
She was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, cooking and baking, especially recipes from her native land of Croatia. Barbara loved spending time with her family and always put others needs before her own and was known for her friendly smile and positive attitude.
Surviving are her sister, Stella Lucas of Butler; her niece, Rose (Martin) McDanel; her nephew, Ronald (Cher) Vardian; three great-nieces; and six great-great nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her extended family on Creekside Path at St. John's, where she found a loving atmosphere and compassionate caregivers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Anna Mobich, Mary Lucas and Kathryn Vardian, and five brothers, Paul, Charles, Joseph, Pete and George Lucas.
LUCAS — Friends of Barbara Ellen Lucas, who passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian.Interment will take place in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, Pa.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
