David Konesni
David Vincent Konesni, 76, of Butler, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, following a hard-fought five-year battle with ALS. He did so with dignity and grace and his sense of humor.
Born and raised in Harmarville, Pa., Dave graduated from Springdale High School in 1966. He went on to study at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1971. During that time, he began service in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he achieved the rank of captain before being honorably discharged in 1979. That same year, Dave began working at Nicholas Enterprises Inc., where he became president and CEO in 1998.
Dave was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. In addition to being a news junkie, he delighted in simple things, including scenic drives, a well-manicured lawn, nature, Steelers games, the ocean, reading, well-seasoned popcorn, and spending time with his grandchildren, old friends and family. He enjoyed nothing more than engaging in in-depth, thoughtful conversations, where he would put his thorough knowledge and understanding of a subject to use. Always fair and kind, his quiet strength, enduring patience and steady, practical, even-tempered disposition will be remembered by those who knew him.
A firm believer in community service, Dave was appointed to the Butler County General Authority, where he served as chairman, and spent many years as president of the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center. He was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts for nine years, during which he led his Scouts on many expeditions, including two trips to Philmont, N.M., and three trips to Haliburton, Canada.
Dave was wholeheartedly grateful to his capable and loving caregivers, doctors, hospice nurse, extended family, friends and above all, his children, for being there for him in more ways than anyone could imagine throughout his many years with ALS.
Married in Slippery Rock Park on Aug. 5, 1977, Dave is survived by his closest friend and loving wife, Lisa Nicholas Konesni; his devoted children, Amelia (David) Grubman, Joshua (Deanna) Konesni, Hillary (Leonard) Linzy and Madeline (Ernie) Francestine; his grandchildren, Madison Linzy, and Samuel, Claudia and Nicholas Grubman; and his sisters, Sharon Konecsni of Pittsburgh and Jean (Ralph) Johnson of Washington, Ill.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent J. and Mary (Kashula) Konecsni. He will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to know his generosity, kindness and wit.
KONESNI — Honoring his wishes, there will be no traditional services held at this time for David Vincent Konesni, who died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. His family will hold a private ceremony at a later time to celebrate his life.
