Cranberry supervisors complete agreement for DCNR grant

CRANBERRY TWP — Supervisors adopted a resolution to finalize a grant agreement with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources during an agenda preparation meeting on Thursday.

The township had already received the $2.8 million Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for the Community Park North project. Thursday’s move was merely a procedural act to execute the grant agreement with DCNR.

The money will be used to construct two and a half “soccer-sized multipurpose fields” at the township’s community park, according to township manager Dan Santoro.

The plan to turn a portion of the green space at the public park into fields will give more opportunities to the township’s residents, he said.

“So it’s really taking all of that (green space) and turning it into a much more usable recreational area,” Santoro said. “We already had a master plan for that when we applied for the grant.”

While the timeline is still unclear, township officials expect some progress to be made this year as the project makes its way through the planning commission.

“We’re hoping that this Community Park North project starts later this year, at least the large earth moving pieces of it,” added Santoro.

In other business, supervisors:

n authorized the advertisement of two public hearings for a pair of ordinance amendments at an upcoming Feb. 27 meeting. One of those amendments would provide revisions to requirements for multistory, multiple-family dwellings in certain zoning districts and the other updates the township’s ordinance regarding timber harvesting.

Following public hearings in late February, supervisors will look to adopt both amendments at a March 6 meeting.
