South Butler Community Library commemorates national celebration

Stories and song welcomed people in the South Butler Community Library on Saturday morning, Feb. 1, where the staff was commemorating a national celebration in Take Your Child to the Library Day.

It was a national celebration to encourage families to visit their local library and explore the resources available to help children develop a love of reading at an early age. No registration was required, and all community members were welcome.

Bridget Weleski, the library’s youth services leader, sang songs on her ukulele and read books aloud to children in the children’s area.

After hearing from Weleski, children could do arts and crafts, making snowflakes and snow people, and completed a scavenger hunt that encouraged them to look in different parts of the library and engage in different toys and building blocks. Winter birds of Pennsylvania were also hidden around the library, encouraging children to learn about the state’s flying creatures.

Every child who attended received a free book and a gift bag. Snacks and drinks were also served. Children were also encouraged to sign up for a free library card, so they could check out books every time they visit the library.
