Broken water main affects BC3 classes
BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College has decided to close its main campus until 5 p.m. today because of a water main break on Old Plank Road.
After initially announcing that it was pushing back the start time on its main campus to 10 a.m., college spokesman Jessica Matonak said the school decided to extend the delay.
The college still is planning to reopen for evening classes.
PA American Water spokesman Gary Lobaugh said the break, to a 12-inch water main along Old Plank Road, occurred at about midnight and is affecting about 40 customers including the college. Lobaugh said the pipe is more than 70 years old and made of cast iron which has outlived its useful life. The company expects to have water service restored by early this afternoon.
Matonak said the break did not damage or flood any buildings at the college, but water is unavailable in all but two buildings on BC3’s main campus.
Classes at the college’s branch campuses remained on their regular schedule today.
