Seneca Valley receives Great Pennsylvania School recognition
JACKSON TWP – The Seneca Valley School District was presented with a “Great Pennsylvania Schools Ribbon” by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.
Lena Hannah, a Western Pennsylvania outreach manager for the association, presented the award at the district’s Monday, Feb. 3, school board work session meeting. Hannah said she was pleased to celebrate Seneca Valley as a great Pennsylvania school.
The recognition is given to schools who show a great deal of commitment to issues including academic rigor, student care and the district’s financial health.
“This honor recognizes school districts for demonstrating a commitment to academic rigor, community, resilience and financial health. We applaud you for your dedication. Your students are both successful and challenged by the school district’s curriculum, which drives student engagement,” Hannah told the board.
According to the website for Great Pennsylvania Schools, around two school districts statewide get recognized monthly.
Hannah said innovative school programs, plus honors and awards given out celebrating student success also were big components of Seneca Valley being deserving of the recognition. She said those initiatives foster a sense of belonging and create connection throughout the school community
A focus on student opportunities also played a big role.
“Robust extracurricular activities help your students develop into well-rounded individuals, as well as a well-rounded group,” Hannah said. “Your district demonstrates the importance of caring for your students holistically: through emergency preparedness and through mental health support.”
She also cited the district fiscal responsibility as factoring into the honor.
Linda Andreassi, Seneca Valley’s communications director, made a point of recognizing Tiffany Hernandez, SV’s head of marketing, as well as Morgan Waag, another communications specialist, for their “invaluable contributions” to the school’s operations and efforts that led to the recognition.
Andreassi said they played a big role in achieving the honor in areas such as content marketing and authoring stories on the school’s website. She also said their efforts were essential in keeping information on both the Seneca Valley website and the website for “Great Pennsylvania Schools.”
“This achievement is an opportunity for the Seneca Valley School District to promote public education excellence in your community,” Hannah said.
