Time Capsule: Steelers fan creates shrine to prep for 2011 Super Bowl

Joe Rihel, of 118 College St. in Butler, started 2011 with many of the Pittsburgh Steelers items he used in 2009, when the team was in Super Bowl XLIII.

Rihel added about 15 items to his display in 2011, when the Steelers were headed to the Super Bowl. That year remains the Steelers’ most recent appearance in the big game.

Although Rihel’s home demonstrated a clear favorite football team, he said he didn’t purchase the merchandise he had on display.

“What makes my display different is that all of the items are homemade,” Rihel said.

The Steelers played the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, Feb. 6, 2011. The Steelers lost that game to the Green Bay Packers 25-31.
