John Dennis Evans
John Dennis Evans, 79, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.
Born on March 14, 1945, in Butler, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Sadlak) Evans.
Dennis graduated from Butler High School and attended Grove City College. After college, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the height of the Vietnam War. He did two tours of duty on aircraft carriers, the USS Coral Sea and the USS Shangri-La, and always said, being on the deck of an aircraft carrier watching jets land and take off was unforgettable. After his service to our country, he worked as a welder for AK Steel for 33 years.
Dennis was a kind and loving soul who loved being surrounded by those close to him. He was compassionate and harbored a great sense of humor. He enjoyed cigars, music, golf and watching football. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Dennis leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 42 years, Bernadette (Vavro) Evans; his sons, Nathan (Tammy) Vavro and Tyler Evans; his grandson, Oliver Dennis; his siblings, Tom (Linda) Evans and Karen (Peter) Haaren; and his niece Tara, to whom he was very close.
The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice and Butler VA for the compassionate care they gave Dennis and his family.
