Pennsylvania’s fall 2024 unclaimed property auction — held Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, 2024 — brought in a record haul of $605,000 for the state treasury. This more than doubled the previous record of $298,000, which was gathered at the previous year.

Unclaimed property auctions such as this take place when the Pennsylvania Treasury has to auction off unclaimed items in its vault to make room for new items. During the auction, more than 5,736 items were sold, including multiple sets of British gold sovereigns that went for a combined $40,000, and an 18K yellow gold chain and pendant that sold for $8,000.

According to a spokesperson from the Treasury department, Butler County residents have a total of $27,561,686.40 in unclaimed property, from 233,917 properties, available to claim as of the start of February. Since the start of 2021, 7,367 properties have been returned to Butler County residents, totaling $5,839,520.37.

A Pennsylvania resident can go to the treasury’s website at www.patreasury.gov to look up whether they have any unclaimed property and put in a claim for it.
