Event could help you save a life

In the Thursday, Feb. 6, edition of the Butler Eagle, we learned about an upcoming event that could make people into heroes.

Each year, Cranberry Township’s EMS service puts on Save a Life Saturday, a one-day course where people can become certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This year, the event is going to be Saturday, Feb. 15.

The move was in part to coincide with American Heart Month, and this year’s ceremony will be begin at 1 p.m. at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.

Part of the event will include CPR classes that end in certification, but the goal is also to highlight stories of people who were saved by CPR in the township. In 2023, there were eight such cases, and in 2024, there were four.

All four people who were resuscitated have been invited to the event, as have the people who helped save their lives.

“We recognize everybody, so it’s not just our EMS workers,” said Matt Nickl, the township’s executive director of EMS. “It could be EMS workers from the hospital that responded, could be firefighters, police and even rescuers who just stopped to lend a hand. We’ll recognize them as well.”

The goal of the day is to highlight exactly how important CPR is to help people survive cardiac arrest outside a hospital.

To participate in the training, come to the Township Municipal Center between 1 and 2:30 p.m. No signup is necessary.

Someone might be forever grateful that you took the time to learn.
