The Butler County Democratic Committee donated more than $600 in gift cards to Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh last week, which the agency’s Butler County office will give to people in its residence housing in need.

Kim Furka, housing services program manager for Catholic Charities, said Thursday, Jan. 30, that gift cards come in handy for the organization because they can be given to people with specific needs like fuel, children’s supplies or women’s hygiene items.

“It does more than you know,” Furka said. “If they just got a job, we can help them with gas to get there. We couldn’t help as many people without donations.”

Catherine Lalonde, chairwoman of the Butler County Democratic Committee, said the committee raised money for Catholic Charities as part of its holiday fundraising campaign. She said the committee raises money each year for a cause, and was able to give $625 to Catholic Charities.
