High school roundup: Neah Ewing, Knoch girls basketball smothers Hampton; Mars, Slippery Rock also win
After scoring just eight points in the first half Monday, the Knoch girls basketball team came to life over the final two quarters in a 37-28 win against Hampton to close the regular season.
Neah Ewing drained four 3-pointers and scored 13 points for the Knights (12-10), and Karlee Buterbaugh added 11.
Knoch surrendered just nine second-half points to the Talbots. The Knights will enter the playoffs winners of four of their last five.
Mars 54, North Hills 52 — Mya Moore scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Fightin’ Planets to a nail-biting home win as the Indians rallied in the fourth quarter after trailing by 10.
Alexis Cashdollar scored 13 and Cecilia Christy 11 for Mars (13-9, 6-6 WPIAL Section 3-5A).
Curwensville 53, Union/A-C Valley 45 — Maddy Dehart scored 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for a double-double for the Falcon Knights.
Emma Raschiatore and Kya Wetzel finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Slippery Rock 52, Grove City 49 — Madison Romanovich led the Rockets (16-5) with 26 points and four assists, and CJ Sabo chipped in 13 points and five boards.
Izzie Gamble recorded her 1,000th point for the Eagles.
North Catholic withstood a rally from Central Catholic — the visiting Vikings cut their deficit from 12 points down to one in the fourth quarter — as the Trojans capped the regular season with a 49-45 victory.
Jason Fredericks scored 21 for North (17-5), and Jude Rottmann had 20.
Hampton 69, Freeport 29 — The Yellowjackets’ season ended with this loss to the Talbots.
Gavin Tola tallied eight points for Freeport (6-16).
Keystone 63, Karns City 61 — Shane Peters (21 points) and Cole Johnston (19) combined for nearly two-thirds of the Gremlins’ output in the narrow loss.
Peters added nine rebounds and Johnston six assists.
Gus Harmon added 10 points as Karns City (9-13) lost its second straight to finish the season.
