Wet week ahead for Butler County
After Butler County got a dusting of snow over Super Bowl weekend, snow is expect to make a return Tuesday night as a winter storm bears down on Western Pennsylvania.
Tuesday, Feb. 11, is expected to bring a 40% chance of precipitation, along with a high near 33 degrees. During the night, temperatures are expected to drop to 23, with the chance of snow at 30%.
Although the state Department of Transportation sent an email to motorists in District 10 — which includes Butler County — warning them to exercise caution for the storm, meteorologist Shannon Hefferan of the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said Butler County should expect no more than trace amounts of snow.
“The more north you go, that’s where the snow kind of trails off,” Hefferan said. “You might get some flurries, maybe some snow showers in the afternoon, but in Butler, it’s just going to be lighter amounts (of snow).”
More wet weather is ahead later in the week. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to bring a mix of rain and snow, with a possibility of freezing rain.
“Northern Butler might get some isolated freezing rain. There might be some mixed precipitation, so that could create some icy road conditions,” Hefferan said. “But we don’t have any warnings out at this time.”
In addition, forecasts call for a mix of rain and snow throughout Saturday with a high of 40 degrees and a 90% chance of precipitation. This is projected to give way to a 90% chance of snow on Sunday with a high of 32.
