James L. Rice

James L. Rice, 88, of Harmony died Friday at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Wexford.

Born Sept. 4, 1920, in Harmony, he was the son of the late Clarence Sidney and Mazie Shaffer Rice.

James was a 1940 graduate of Zelienople High School. He was a sergeant in the medical corps of the Air Force, serving in North Africa and Italy from 1942 to 1945.

He retired from the Lava Crucible Refractory, where he worked from 1945 to 1982.

James loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed his family.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Little Rice, who he married Sept. 7, 1945; three sons, James L. Rice Jr. and his wife, Helen, of New Kensington, John W. Rice and his wife, Donna, of Harmony and Jeffrey L. Rice and his wife, Karen, of Fombell; two grandchildren, Jennifer A. Rice of Cheswick and Derek Rice and his wife, Rebecca, of Davies, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Brayden Rice.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy A. Rice.
