SABRES SALUTE
The Buffalo Sabres retired former captain Pat LaFontaine's No. 16 on Friday night. LaFontaine, who had 158 goals and 385 points in 268 games with Buffalo, joined Gilbert Perreault (11), Rick Martin (7), Rene Robert (14), Tim Horton (2) and Danny Gare (18) in having his jersey retired to the rafters.

Dallas signed defenseman Philippe Boucher to a three-year contract extension Friday. Boucher, a 12-year veteran, already has career highs in goals (12), including three game-winners, and points (31) in 44 games this season. ... Minnesota goalie Manny Fernandez signed a multiyear contract extension. The 31-year-old Fernandez is 23-11-4 and his 2.20 goals-against average is the fifth best in the NHL.
