Walter Mazar
Walter Michael Mazar, 82, of Butler, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.
He was born April 2, 1942, in Manhattan, N.Y., the son of the late Michael and Mary (Stephura) Mazar.
Walter attended New Testament Baptist Church and had a diverse career, having worked for various companies, including a logging company, The Cheesecake Factory, Winky’s, Pullman Standard, Ricardo’s Restaurant (which later became Country Cove/Rosewood) and the Runway. Additionally, he provided lawn care services.
Walter had an appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He also had a special fondness for Volkswagen Beetles.
He was a participant at Butler LIFE for 13 years, where he formed lasting relationships and deeply appreciated the support and opportunities it provided him.
A passionate reader, Walter read over 1,000 books, including the Bible more than 13 times. He found joy in listening to hymns and gospel music and cherished spending time with loved ones at family gatherings, always surrounded by friends.
Walter is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ruth (Schrecongost) Mazar, his soulmate and the love of his life for 24 years; as well as his sisters-in-law, Nancy Mazar, Marlene (Chuck) Twentier and Barbara Schrecongost; and his brother-in-law, Verne (Debbie) Schrecongost. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, Brandy Keight; along with many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John A. Mazar; and his nephew, Jonathan Mazar.
MAZAR — Friends of Walter Michael Mazar, who died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home, with his pastor, Brian Lott, officiating.
Private burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Butler.
