June English
June English, 95, formerly of Evans City, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at Lutheran Senior Life Passavant Community, Zelienople.
Elvira June Lutz was born Jan. 2, 1930, to Dorothy Slack Lutz and Howard Lutz and was raised in the house her grandfather built in Evans City. She graduated from Evans City High School in 1947, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Glenn “Sting” English. They were married Sept. 1, 1948, at St. John's Reformed Church, Evans City.
Starting in 1950, June and Sting raised their family of six children over three decades in the house that they built in Evans City. June was a master planner of family finances as a stay-at-home mom, ensuring her large family’s every need was met on Sting’s modest income at United Telephone.
She proudly served as Evans City’s elected tax collector for 17 years, allowing the residents to discover just how affable she was as they came to the house to pay their taxes and share their life stories with her.
In her day, June was an active den mother and room mother for her children. She had an amazing knack for crocheting and knitting, which she would do as she and Sting traveled all over the country, including an extended road trip adventure to Alaska, cut short (as Sting would say) by her homesickness for her family. She was a faithful member of a close friend network of Women's 500 Card Club that met regularly for more than 50 years in Evans City. Sting and June were a bedrock of community involvement both civically and socially. The Lunch Bunch group of 12-plus Evans City couples met monthly to celebrate each other’s birthdays and other personal and family milestones.
Finally, her lifelong love for singing and music was imparted to her children as she made sure each were given piano lessons and encouraged to sing in choirs. June started singing in choirs in 1942, and continued to sing through her vocal “retirement” in 2020. She was a founding member of the community group, A Circle of Friends Choirs, and sang in its alto section, where she was dearly loved as a leader and friend and, most recently, as an ardent and ever-present supporter in the front row of every concert of every season.
While June had a large extended family, she had an even larger heart to love each one who survives, including children, Dennis (Denise) English, Thomas (Carol) English, Patricia (James) Morrissey, Cheryl (Kevin) Harancher, David (Vicky) English and Kimberly (Andrew) Halter.
Her 13 grandchildren are Erin (Andrea Cermanski) English, Brittany (Rich) Carter, Heath (Michelle) Knox, Derek (Jessica) English, Kendra (Tyler) Belcher, Sean (Melissa) Morrissey, Kelly (Will) Roldan, Tyler (Jenny) Harancher, Hanna (Mike) Coleman, Ian (Shayla) English, Gabrielle (Noah) Kennedy, Elijah (Katelyn) Halter and Isabella (Blake) Halter.
Her 25 great-grandchildren include Mica, Kahlo, Josephine June, Myranda, Mykayla, MyKenna, Ella, Liam, Hunter, Easton, Andy, Abi, Lydia, Selah, Mose, Manny, Luca, Cora, Reagan, Giavonna, Tucker, Milania, Cash, Cozette and Oliver. She also had six great-great-grandchildren, Brooks, Bailey, Brinley, Sophie, Adeline and Kaleb.
June was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Sting, in 2009; her sister, Dorothy Higley; and a grandson, Kyle Harancher.
