Driver critically injured, airlifted after accident in Center Township
A driver was LifeFlighted to Allegheny General Hospital after sustaining what were described as “critical injuries” in a vehicle accident while driving along Route 8 in Center Township on Sunday morning, March 2. The crash site is not far from the Starlight Drive-In.
The cause of the accident is not yet known. However, according to Mike Pflugh, chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, the SUV was found next to a “large boulder” that was blocking crews from reaching the driver.
“We had to move a large boulder that was keeping us from opening the door,” Pflugh said.
To remove the boulder, the UVFC received help from a tow-truck driver who just happened to be passing by at the time.
“There was a tow truck on the scene when we got there,” Pflugh said. “We hooked a strap to (the boulder) and the tow truck pulled the boulder away from the door of the car and we were able to open up the door and get the guy out.”
According to Pflugh, the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved. Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
