Ruth Johnson
Ruth Johnson, 98, of New Castle passed away in the evening, Dec. 25, 2020, at Quality Life Services, New Castle.
Born June 7, 1922, in Slippery Rock, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Sara (Morrow) Fergus.
On June 28, 1944, she married Charles M. Johnson. They were married for 54 years before his passing Sept. 10, 1999.
Mrs. Johnson was a teacher at the Reynoldsville, Berlin and Brockway Area school districts. She also taught for AARP, as a senior driving teacher. She retired after 34 years of teaching.
Ruth was very active in her community, and was a member of various organizations, including Delta-Kappa-Gamma, Jameson Aides, Wimodausis, PASR and United Presbyterian Women.
She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons, Neil Johnson of Brockway, Pa., and David Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Irene Fergus of New Castle; one sister-in-law, Lucille Fergus of Slippery Rock; and one granddaughter, Kristina Klavins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one brother, James Fergus; and three sisters, Helen Barnes, Mary Judge and Jean Holben.
JOHNSON — Private family services for Ruth Johnson, who died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, were held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
Burial will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
