Margaret Hortert

Margaret “Peg” Hortert, 90, of North Washington went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:45 p.m. Thursday surrounded by her family.

Margaret was the daughter of the late Harold Sherman and the late Helen Shaw Sherman. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish, having attended St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury.

Margaret was involved in many community activities throughout the years. She currently was serving as the president of the North Washington VFD Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a supervisor with the Flames and Flickers Majorette Corps for many years. Margaret served on the election board as the judge of elections and the Butler County Census Board. She was also a member of her Friday Night Card Club.

While she served on many clubs and organizations, her greatest love was for her family. She loved holidays and family gatherings, where she could spend time with all of them.

Margaret is survived by four daughters, Stella Chiappini of Eau Claire, Sandra (Wally) Hortert Goff of Itasca, Texas, Marie (John) Grimm of Midland, Pa., and Grace (Donald) Humphrey of Gordonville, Va.; two sons, Ronald McDonald of Hookstown, Pa., and Albert (Wendy) Hortert Jr. of West Sunbury; 20 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hortert Sr.; one daughter, Jeannette Snow; one son, Sam McDonald; and her son-in-law, Philip Chiappini.

HORTERT — Friends of Margaret “Peg” Hortert, who died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. James Bedillion, her pastor, officiating.
