Raymond Younkins
Raymond A. “Ray” Younkins, 91, of Concordia at Cabot, formerly of Butler, passed away Sunday evening, March 2, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.
Born in West Winfield, Butler County, on March 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Clifford D. and Margaret Kerr Younkins.
He graduated from Winfield-Clinton High School in 1950.
Ray proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, being honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He earned the Good Conduct Medal as well as the National Defense Service Medal.
Working briefly with Du-Co, he then began a nearly 40-year career with Penn-Dixie Cement (now Armstrong) from which he retired as a lab and systems analyst.
He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Butler.
He and his wife, Audrey, enjoyed traveling, taking many ocean cruises, European river cruises, as well as trips to Austria. They also enjoyed square dancing as members of the Keystone Squares. In addition, Ray enjoyed both golfing and bowling. He also attended cardio-rehab classes at Butler Health System for many years, where he was a most respected member of the group.
He is survived by his wife, the former Audrey A. Hasenkopf, whom he married July 1, 1961, in Millvale (Pittsburgh). Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Raymond Scott (Jennifer) Younkins of House Springs, Mo., Kenneth Dean (Elizabeth) Younkins of St. Davids, Pa., and Alan William (Kathleen) Younkins of Natrona Heights; seven grandchildren, Alexander H. (Stephanie)., Katherine E., Nicholas R., Benjamin R., Caroline E., Kayla C. (Kevin) and Karly M. (Freddie); three great-grandchildren, Fiona M., Amelia L. and Kinsley M.; and two brothers, Lester A. and Gerald L.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Patricia; and brother, Clifford.
YOUNKINS — Relatives and friends of Raymond A. “Ray” Younkins, who died Sunday, March 2, 2025, may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Younkins will be laid to rest at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies, near Pittsburgh.
