District 3’s West York beat Mars 54-44 in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A girls basketball tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Planets’ season comes to an end, while the Bulldogs will face WPIAL runner-up South Fayette, which beat District 3’s Lower Dauphin 56-21, in a Wednesday second-round game at a site and time to be determined.

Cecilia Christy led Mars, WPIAL’s fourth seed, with 14 points. The Planets trailed 28-19 at halftime and 36-23 after three quarters.
