Boy hit by vehicle in Butler
A child was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of West New Castle Street and Sixth Avenue in Butler on Wednesday afternoon, March 12.
Butler city police said in a news release a young boy was struck by a vehicle around 3:30 p.m. He was being taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for treatment of his injuries.
West New Castle Street was closed in both directions from Sixth Avenue to Seventh Avenue until further notice for the investigation, according to the news release, with police redirecting traffic.
Butler police, state police, the Butler Bureau of Fire, Butler Ambulance Service, and PennDOT maintenance crews were among those that responded to the scene.
According to the news release, the driver of the vehicle that hit the child stopped at the scene.
The incident caused much commotion at the intersection, which is the site of several apartment buildings. Multiple residents told the Butler Eagle that they left their homes to take a look upon hearing the police and fire sirens.
“A lady was running up and down the street telling everybody, ‘A child’s been hit, a child’s been hit,’ like the town crier,” said Kyle Fradenburgh.
