Slippery Rock Rotary Club supplies Autumn Grove with new tech
Slippery Rock Rotary Club and the Harrisville Satellite Club donated new technology to Transitions Healthcare Autumn Grove in Harrisville, and, on Wednesday, March 12, the clubs’ members visited the facility to see the donations in action.
The clubs donated two large screen TVs, sound bars, a karaoke machine, an overhead projector, a popcorn machine and two patio umbrellas to the facility, thanks to a District 7280 matching grant that supplied $1,500 to the project.
Regina Greenwald, treasurer for the Slippery Rock Rotary Club, said the club applies for the grant every year to fund community projects. This year, the club chose to help Autumn Grove, because the late Harrisville Mayor and satellite club member Gary Hughes had the place on his list of agencies in need.
“Gary Hughes was very much involved in Harrisville,” Greenwald said. “He knew (Autumn Grove) had a serious need for new equipment. We put the grant together and had the items delivered directly there.”
The new technology has already improved the lives of Autumn Grove residents, according to its staff.
“I can’t tell you the difference this has made in our residents,” said Jennifer Frizzel, director of Autumn Grove, said. “Quality of life changes with the degree of involvement. They love the karaoke machine because it helps them remember the words to their old favorites.”
This project was initiated by and dedicated to Hughes, who died in July 2024. Signs to recognize the donation were made by Gary’s son, Jason Hughes, who is an instructor in metals at Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School.
