Man arrested Saturday in downtown Butler after protesters call police
A man was arrested Saturday afternoon, March 15, when a group gathered for a protest at Butler’s Diamond Park called 911 after seeing him block traffic along Main Street.
Butler police said they took George Cedeno into custody at the event, after he was reported to be interrupting traffic. The arresting officer said in a police report that Cedeno made aggressive moves toward him and the demonstrators at Diamond Park.
The man was seen dancing in the street and dodging cars during the early afternoon while the Butler County Democratic Committee was holding an organized demonstration intended to protest potential cuts to the U.S. Department of Education by the Trump Administration.
Butler City police responded to the call and arrested the man near Diamond Park.
Catherine Lalonde, chairwoman of the Butler County Democratic Committee, said a member of the committee called police after people at the demonstration tried to call the man in from the street.
“He was lying down in the road and standing in front of traffic,” Lalonde said.
Lalonde said the man was not affiliated with the demonstration.
Butler County Sheriff Mike Slupe confirmed Saturday that a man, who was not associated with the demonstration, was taken into custody in the area of the park.
He said he was told the man came up from the McKean Street area.
