Lancaster Township supervisors approve vehicle sales, stormwater position

LANCASTER TWP — Township supervisors made several moves relating to their vehicle fleet during a meeting Monday, March 17.

The first of those was an approval to sell a 2022 police vehicle to the Butler City K-9 Unit.

That sale will be for $20,000 and can be finalized after an approval from Butler City Council, which will meet March 27.

Supervisors also authorized the advertisement of a 2020 Ford Interceptor at a starting bid of $12,000. Further discussion will be held to decide whether that vehicle will be listed on Municibid or Auctions International.

Those vehicles are set to be replaced by newer models later this year. The 2025 budget allocated funding for two 2023 Ford Interceptors, a 2024 Interceptor and an unmarked Ford-150 pickup truck to be used exclusively by the police department.

Additionally, a payment was approved for a 2025 Mack truck ordered in 2024 for $144,709. American Rescue Plan Act funds were set aside for the purchase.

In other business, supervisors gave a green light for funding toward an intergovernmental cooperation agreement that calls for the hiring of a new administrator who will handle stormwater issues in southwestern Butler County.

The other three municipalities — Zelienople, Jackson Township and Harmony — already approved the new position at previous meetings.

Lancaster Township’s yearly contribution will check in at $14,625, Zelienople’s at $10,530 and Harmony at $2,925.

Jackson Township agreed to a $30,420 annual charge, and the stormwater authority itself will pay $31,500.

Contributions will be determined by millage rates and will not increase by more than 5% per year.
