High school roundup: Knoch baseball, NC softball earn wins
Dylan Roth hit a home run and singled while scoring three runs and driving in three for Knoch’s baseball team, which plated eight runs in the top of the seventh inning in an 11-3 win over Deer Lakes on Wednesday.
Sean Morgan and Hunter Lang both had a pair of hits in the win.
Cody Stull and Noah Glassic combined for nine strikeouts and no walks on the mound. Glassic earned the win, pitching 2.2 innings of relief.
Freeport 10, Apollo-Ridge 0 — Gage Blystone allowed just one hit and two total baserunners against the Vikings.
Chase Walker was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and triple. Gavin Tola singled twice for the Yellowjackets (1-1).
North Catholic 8, Bishop Canevin 1 — The Trojans were led by senior Joe Safar, who went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.
Trojan pitchers combined to allow just two hits.
Senior shortstop Natalia Rushak went 2-for-3 with a home run while collecting three RBI to lead North Catholic to a 6-1 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
Ella Eiler added three hits for the Trojanettes (2-0).
Kennedy Brown struck out 17, walked seven and allowed just the one run on two hits to earn the victory.
New Castle 19, Butler 15 — The Red Hurricanes’ 8-run fourth inning doomed the Golden Tornado (0-2).
Kyra Olivares had four hits for Butler and teammate Annalyn Schnur doubled twice.
Plum 8, Knoch 7 — Grace Hensch and Emersyn Jones had two hits apiece for the Knights in this season-opening loss.
Kaila Purcell, Lizzie Danik and Jones each contributed two RBI.
Ethan Palmer, Cal Johnson and Evan Palmiero swept the singles matches as Mars dominated Seneca Valley in a 5-0 win.
Winning duos in doubles play for the Planets were Max Palmiero-Lucas Crawford and Jaxen Hittle-Zack Wilfong.
Butler’s boys and girls both picked up a pair of victories against North Catholic and South Fayette. No other details were available.
