Helen Rumbaugh
Helen J. Rumbaugh, 90, of Cabot, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, at Concordia at Cabot while under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice.
She was born on July 7, 1934 in Adrian, Pa., the daughter of Mathias E. and Mildred (Croyle) Bowser. Helen grew up on the family farm in Adrian.
On May 12, 1956, she married John Rumbaugh in the Montgomery Baptist Church. They lived in Bethel Township for 43 years until their retirement. In their retirement, they spent many happy times at their home in Florida, where they fished and enjoyed walking on the beaches looking for seashells, shark teeth and whatever the waves washed up.
Helen and her husband, John, loved to travel. They would pull their camper with John’s truck and drive to where the road took them, frequently deciding where to camp as they went. Together, and often with their children, they visited all 50 states. They also drove to Alaska, Mexico, many of the national parks in the West and all of the provinces of Canada. Yosemite was Helen’s favorite park and they visited there often. Her family will never forget these special trips, and her love for them will live on in their memories of times spent together.
Helen worked for Quality Inn in Kittanning for 16 years, where she greeted guests as a clerk. She worshiped at Baptist churches where she was living over the years.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Kimberly Chupka and husband, David, of Nashport, Ohio, Sally Trew (friend, Lillian Baptiste) of Butler and Cynthia Slee and husband, Roger, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Jonathan Chupka and wife, Margaret, Mark and Andrew Chupka, Benjamin Trew and wife, Suzanne, and Emily Pa’u and husband, Malosi, and Eric Slee; great-grandchildren, Carter, Emma and Lucas Chupka, Owen Trew, Mia Slee, Gabriella Kehlani and Malakai Pa’u; and many nephews and nieces, especially Sandy Smith of Kittanning, who was like her fourth daughter. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Larry Bowser and wife, Janet, of Worthington and Marco Island, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 46 years, John R. Rumbaugh, who passed away Feb. 20, 2003; brothers, Robert Bowser and Corbin Bowser; and sisters, Annabelle Benson, Betty Noll and Maedawn Albright.
