Woman injured in Buffalo Township minivan crash
One woman was seriously injured Thursday, March 27, after her minivan traveled over a hillside and into a creek in Buffalo Township.
According to Tim Derringer, Buffalo Township police chief, emergency personnel were called to the intersection of South Pike and Sarver roads just before 5 p.m. after receiving reports that a vehicle traveling east on Route 228 had left the road, went over a hillside and crashed.
The unidentified woman sustained “severe injuries to her leg and head” and was airlifted to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Derringer said.
Two off-duty nurses witnessed the crash, went down the embankment and administered first aid to the woman,” Derringer said.
“We can’t thank them enough for that,” he said.
Derringer said officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
“We’re still determining if a medical issue arose or if it was a vehicle failure,” he said Friday morning.
In addition to the Buffalo Township police and fire departments, EMS departments from Freeport and Saxonburg responded. Fire departments from Sarver and Harrison Hills in Allegheny County also responded.
Employees from Sarver Auto removed the minivan from the creek.
Emergency personnel cleared the scene and reopened the road at 6:45 p.m.
