Thomas Michael “Tom” Phillips, 65, of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Chicora, passed away of natural causes Friday, March 28, 2025, at his home.

Thomas was born in Butler on Aug. 22, 1959. He was the son of the late James R. Sr. and Dolores “Doll” Waltman Phillips.

He was of the Catholic faith and had attended Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church as a youth. He was a 1977 graduate of Karns City Area High School and had attended Butler County Community College. Tom was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had been employed most of his working life as an auto mechanic. Tom was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Phillips and his wife, Kristina, of Virginia Beach, Va., and William Phillips, serving proudly in the U.S. Navy, of Norfolk, Va.; a grandson, Sebastian Phillips; his aunt, Frances Waltman of Chicora; two brothers, David G. Phillips and Stephen Phillips, both of Chicora; and two sisters, Marian Phillips Garrott of Kittanning and Patricia A. “Patti” Phillips LeFebevre and her husband, Tim, of Oberlin, Ohio; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Michael Phillips Jr.; a brother, James R. “Rosco” Phillips; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

PHILLIPS — A memorial Mass for Thomas Michael “Tom” Phillips, who died Friday, March 28, 2025, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora. The Rev. Alan Morris, senior parochial vicar of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, will be officiating with the Rev. Mr. Thomas Lopus, family friend and deacon of Saint John and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Sewickley, assisting.

Military honors will be accorded by members of the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion posts following Mass.

Inurnment will be with his parents and brother at Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to a veteran’s charity of one’s choice.
