A dog died in a three-alarm fire that called crews to the 200 block of West Liberty Road in Brady Township Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported shortly after 2:20 p.m. at the unoccupied home.

The fire likely ignited in a pellet stove before spreading to the home’s back porch and shed, according to Unionville Volunteer Fire Company chief Mike Pflugh.

The home’s two occupants were away when the fire began and arrived as crews were extinguishing the flames.

Pflugh said the fire was under control within four minutes of fire crews arriving. They declined to comment.

Crews attacked the fire from the inside and outside of the building using water and foam. Pflugh said foam sticks to wood longer than water and lowers the chance of re-ignition. Positive pressure ventilation fans were also used to pump smoke out of the building.

Crews were on scene until at least 4 p.m.

Slippery Rock and Harrisville volunteer fire companies; Prospect, West Sunbury and Portersville-Muddy Creek Township volunteer fire departments; Butler Township Volunteer Fire District Station 3; Butler Ambulance Service, Allegheny Health Network pre-hospital services; Grove City Volunteer Fire Department; and Pine Township Engine Company also responded.
