Butler’s Nico Baggetta and Brendan Eicher were both individual winners at the Tri-State Championships at West Mifflin on Saturday. Baggetta launched the javelin 174 feet, 2 inches, while Eicher ran 9:27.72 in the 3,200. Eicher’s mark puts him seventh on the Golden Tornado’s all-time leaderboard in that event.
On the girls’ side, Julianna Lockwood won the discus (110-9).
Butler’s boys’ 400 relay, made up of Logan Ekas, Kevin Shriver, Grayden Brown and Chris Rubcic, also placed first at the event. As did the girls’ 3,200 relay (Macie McLister, Lyla Bowden, Makayla McLister and Avery Sintz).
The team’s boys’ 3,200 relay (Mateo Saspe, Alex Motonis, Shae Sintz and Logan Rodgers) was a runner-up. Adraya Baxter (300 hurdles) was, as well.
Mars swept by Kiski Area — The Planet girls fell 115-35 and the boys by a score of 91-59.
Softball
Olivia Cochran hit a grand slam in Seneca Valley’s 16-0 win over Woodland Hills.
Freeport 12, Valley 0 — The Yellowjackets (4-6) shook off the Vikings in five innings.
Ali Smith struck out 10, walked one and surrendered just two hits for the win.
Leah Clark homered and singled, collecting three RBIs. Addy Caruso and Smith both doubled.
Blackhawk 2, North Catholic 1 — Kylie Prisuta limited the Trojanettes (6-4) to just three hits while allowing one unearned run and striking out nine.
Kennedy Brown pitched well in defeat, striking out 12, walking three and giving up two unearned runs.
Franklin 14, Slippery Rock 13 — Haven Goodman’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning won it for the Knights.
The Rockets fell, despite collecting 17 hits and leading 9-3 after two innings.
Delaney Staab, Joslyn Korcok and Grace Wetzel each had three hits for the Rockets and drove in a combined six runs.
Baseball
Sophomore catcher Connor Zorn went 4 for 4, with a home run and 4 RBIs to lead Slippery Rock to a 5-0 victory at Oil City.
Isaac McCandless started on the mound and went five innings, allowing no runs and struck out five.
Bryce Covert pitched the final two innings for the Rockets (5-0), striking out two.
Fox Chapel 7, Mars 3 — The Foxes plated four runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Bo Costanza and Luke Goodworth both had two hits for the Planets (4-5).
Deer Lakes 12, Freeport 7 — Michael Hanz doubled four times and scored three runs, but the ’Jackets (4-5) could not keep up with the Lancers.
Luke Whitfield had three hits for Freeport and Kason Barker homered and drove in three runs.
Girls Lacrosse
H.Long scored three goals and added two assists for Mars in a 19-1 win over host Ambridge.
K.Blake, A.McGrath and T.McGrath each added three goals in the victory.
Boys Lacrosse
Jameson Micelli scored three times and Aaden Alcorn twice, but Freeport dropped a
9-7 decision to Shaler.
Brayden Riddell added a goal and two assists for the Yellowjackets.
Boys Tennis
Seneca Valley dropped a 5-0 decision to North Allegheny.
