Seven Fields Council prepares for summertime

SEVEN FIELDS — Members of Seven Fields Borough Council made several moves in preparation for the summer months during a meeting on Monday, April 14.

The largest of those included approvals for a few notable upgrades to the borough’s ballfield that amounted to $9,279.43.

Those include the installation of new benches and concrete dugout flooring, along with the purchase of batting box material and infield mix for any potential severe weather.

“There were multiple quotes obtained,” borough manager Tom Smith said during the meeting. “The public works department will be performing the majority of the work, including the concrete installation of the dugout flooring.”

Council members also noted that $10,000 was set aside for the project in the 2025 capital budget.

Organizations from around the area regularly rent out the field for use throughout the summer months.

In a follow-up to the upgrades, council members approved a field rental agreement between the borough and the Pittsburgh Power Softball Association.

That agreement will pay the borough an annual fee of $3,300 for 2025 and 2026.

Several other actions involved the Seven Fields Town Park Pool, including the purchase of a new automated external defibrillator for $1,223.29. Council members said they will also seek to acquire another AED to place within the borough building.

Additionally, the pool will be receiving a new splash pad timer and pressure control valve for $4,850. Five lifeguards were also officially hired at a rate of $15 per hour.

In related matters to the anticipation of summer, Seven Fields residents should expect to see the borough’s first newsletter in June.

Council members approved a biannual publication in coordination with Hometown Press, which will pay for all costs associated with designing and printing the newsletter.

The borough will only be responsible for the mailing expenses that are likely to be around $1,200.
