Linda M. Barger Newton
Linda M. Barger Newton, 56, a lifetime resident of Grove City, passed away Wednesday evening at UPMC North Hills Passavant Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 20, 1959, in Grove City to Malcolm E. “Mac” and Bernice A. McBride Barger. Linda married Robert G. Newton Jr. on Oct. 5, 1991.
Linda was a graduate of Grove City High School, Class of 1977, and Erie Business College with an associate degree in legal secretarial in 1979.
For the past 32 years, she has been employed at Slippery Rock University, where she currently working in the undergraduate admissions department. Earlier in her career, she was employed at Intermediate Unit IV for four years.
She was a member of the East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City, where she served as a deacon in the church. Linda enjoyed reading and she was very active in Boy Scouts of America. She was the merit badge counselor with Troop 76, Grove City
Survivors include her husband, Robert at home; one son, Sean R. Newton of Grove City; one brother, Edward B. Barger and his wife, Pamela, of North Huntingdon, Pa.; one niece; and many extended family members.
NEWTON — Visitation for Linda M. Barger Newton, who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the East Main Presbyterian Church, 125. E. Main St., Grove City.Burial will take place at the Crestview Memorial Park.Memorials in Linda's memory may be made to the East Main Presbyterian Church or The American Cancer Society.
