Two men charged with depositing counterfeited checks

Felony charges were filed on Wednesday, April 23, against two men accused of depositing counterfeited checks from Monte Cellos Restaurant in Cranberry Township in 2024.

Davine Brooks, 24, of Palmdale, Calif., and Krishawn Jones, 20, of Clarkston, Ga., were charged with felony access device fraud and felony dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities by the Cranberry Township Police Department.

According to the affidavit, police met with the owner of Monte Cellos Restaurant in February 2024. According to police, two business checks for the restaurant, in amounts of $94,251.33 and $6,636.72, were stolen. The checks were originally intended for vendors to pay for business expenses.

Police said through their investigation, they determined the checks had been counterfeited and deposited into bank accounts owned by Bruce and Jones. The larger of the two checks was deposited on Jan. 3, 2024 in Los Angeles, and the smaller was deposited on Jan. 4, 2024 in Atlanta.

The accounts the checks were deposited in both have a single account holder, and were owned by Brooks and Jones, according to court records.
