Sylvia Hinchberger
Sylvia May (Kerr) Hinchberger, 97, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025, while residing at Concordia in Cabot.
Born in Butler on March 4, 1928, she was a daughter of John W. Kerr and Thelma (Barnhart) Kerr.
Sylvia was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. She was a 1946 graduate of Butler High School and had attended evening classes at Butler County Community College. She had been employed at Armco and West Penn Power before she married. After she was married and raised four children, she worked for Chester Engineers and the Butler Area Sewer Authority before retiring in 1990.
Surviving are her four children, Yvonne (and the late David) Cole of Butler, Kirk (Kathy) Hinchberger of Economy, Russell (Darlene) Hinchberger of Cabot and Lee Hinchberger and his fiancée, Christine Sepich, of Butler; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Wilson, Jared (Jasmine) Cole, Michael (Burcu) Hinchberger, Kaitlyn (Andrew) Harrison, Amanda Hinchberger, Daniel Hinchberger, Joseph (Halie) Hinchberger and Joshua Hinchberger and his fiancée, Allyson Comperatore; nine great-grandchildren, Cooper, Tyler, Zachary, Lucas, Jacob, Laynie, Nixon, Jax and Izabella.
She also is survived by a cousin, Edward Foulk, of Cabot, with whom she was raised by their grandparents, Frank and Anna May Barnhart; and nephews whom she helped raise, Russell (Michele) Kerr of Butler and Kenneth Kerr of Charlotte, N.C. She had other numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene A. “Gene” Hinchberger, whom she married Oct. 6, 1951, who passed away April 18, 2022; three brothers, Donald, Russell and Richard Kerr; one sister, Mary Oestrich; a nephew, Donald Kerr; and a daughter-in-law, Jodi Hinchberger.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Concordia — especially Lori, Katie, Shannon, Bri, Lexi and Erica — and Mandy and Katelyn from Good Samaritan Hospice for their care.
HINCHBERGER — Friends of Sylvia May (Kerr) Hinchberger, who died Tuesday, April 22, 2025, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
